Kurigram Online Gambling Raid Results In One Arrest

A targeted law enforcement operation conducted by the Ulipur Thana Police in the Kurigram district has resulted in the apprehension of a thirty-one-year-old man identified as Munna Mia for his alleged involvement in illicit online gambling activities. The raid was executed during the late-night hours of Saturday, 20 June 2026, within the Boro Gabertol area, which is situated under the administrative jurisdiction of the Gunaigach Union Parishad in the Ulipur sub-district. The suspect, Munna Mia, has been identified by local authorities as the son of Abdul Aziz, a resident of the same locality.

The police operation was initiated following the receipt of confidential intelligence reports by the Ulipur law enforcement authorities, indicating that a group of individuals were actively conducting unauthorized online gaming and betting operations inside a commercial establishment known as the Mama-Bhagne Decorator shop. Based on this specific information, a specialized police team from the Ulipur Police Station raided the specified commercial premises. Upon entering the location, police officers observed several young men utilizing mobile telephone devices to participate in electronic transactions and digital wagering activities via specialized online gambling applications.

Sensing the sudden arrival of the police personnel, several individuals managed to flee the immediate scene and evade arrest. However, law enforcement officers successfully contained and apprehended Munna Mia at the site of the raid. Following his physical detention, a search of the suspect’s clothing led to the discovery and seizure of a smartphone device from his trousers pocket. The confiscated electronic device, which possesses an estimated market value of approximately thirty-five thousand Bangladeshi Taka, was thoroughly examined by the securing officers at the scene.

According to official statements provided by the police, the seized mobile phone contained significant digital evidence and records demonstrating active participation in online gambling via electronic transactions. Law enforcement authorities have alleged that Munna Mia, along with the individuals who fled the scene during the raid, operated not merely as participants but functioned as local coordinators and transactional agents for various online gambling applications. These agents facilitate the deposition and withdrawal of funds for regional users utilizing digital finance platforms.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Ulipur Police Station, Sayed Ibn Siddique, formally confirmed the details of the raid, the seizure of the electronic evidence, and the subsequent arrest of the suspect. The police chief stated that a formal criminal case has been registered against Munna Mia under the provisions of the Cyber Security Act. Following the completion of mandatory administrative and legal procedures at the police station, the detained suspect was escorted to the local judicial court on Sunday afternoon, 21 June 2026. Upon presentation before the magistrate, the court issued an order directing that the accused be transferred to a judicial jail facility pending further legal proceedings. Law enforcement officials have indicated that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
