A temporary disruption in gas supply pressure has been announced by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited following a reduction in the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). The company has cautioned that consumers across its service network may experience lower-than-usual gas pressure over the coming days.
In a media statement issued on Monday, the authorities confirmed that the shortfall in LNG supply has directly affected the availability of RLNG, which in turn is expected to create pressure constraints across all categories of consumers. The disruption is anticipated to persist from Monday night through Thursday.
According to the announcement, residential households, commercial establishments, industrial units, and compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling stations within the Titas Gas distribution area may all be affected. In many localities, gas pressure may remain significantly below normal levels, while some consumers could face intermittent or temporary interruptions in supply.
The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and urged consumers to remain patient during this period. Officials also indicated that the situation is expected to improve once RLNG supply stabilises and returns to normal levels, at which point distribution pressure should be restored accordingly.
Energy sector observers note that Bangladesh’s gas distribution system is increasingly reliant on imported LNG to meet domestic demand. Any fluctuation in global supply chains or terminal-level imports can therefore have immediate downstream effects on end users, particularly in densely populated urban and industrial zones served by Titas Gas.
Expected Impact Overview
Category of Consumers
Likely Impact
Duration
Remarks
Residential users
Low gas pressure; possible cooking disruption
Monday night–Thursday
Higher impact during peak cooking hours
Commercial users
Reduced operational efficiency
Monday night–Thursday
Restaurants and small businesses may be affected
Industrial units
Partial production slowdowns
Monday night–Thursday
Dependent on gas intensity of operations
CNG stations
Intermittent refuelling constraints
Monday night–Thursday
Possible queue delays and reduced supply flow
Authorities have not indicated any need for emergency rationing at this stage but have advised all categories of consumers to use gas judiciously during the affected period. Continuous monitoring of the supply situation is underway, and updates are expected if conditions change.
Once RLNG imports and regasification levels return to normal, the distribution network is expected to stabilise quickly, restoring standard pressure levels across the affected regions.
