Hasan Mahmud Earns Kent T20 Blast Opportunity

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has been rewarded for his impressive performances in English county cricket with a place in Kent’s squad for the Vitality T20 Blast, offering him a valuable opportunity to strengthen his case for a return to Bangladesh’s white-ball set-up.

Kent confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, announcing that the 26-year-old pacer has been included in the squad for three Vitality Blast fixtures. His participation, however, remains subject to receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The opportunity marks another significant milestone in Hasan’s career, coming just weeks after he made an immediate impact in the County Championship.

Representing Kent in red-ball cricket, the right-arm seamer enjoyed a dream debut against Lancashire, producing the finest match figures of his first-class career by claiming nine wickets and playing a decisive role in his side’s victory. He followed that performance with another impressive display in Kent’s next County Championship fixture, taking three more wickets to underline his consistency in English conditions.

Those performances have now earned him a chance to showcase his abilities in the shortest format of the game.

Hasan travelled directly to England after Bangladesh’s one-off Test against Zimbabwe instead of returning home, signalling his commitment to making the most of his county stint. The upcoming Vitality Blast matches will also mark the first time he has participated in an overseas domestic or franchise T20 competition.

If granted clearance by the BCB, Hasan could make his Vitality Blast debut as early as Sunday when Kent face Hampshire. He is also expected to be available for Kent’s subsequent fixtures against Surrey and Middlesex, with the latter scheduled for 12 July.

His inclusion makes him only the fourth Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in England’s premier domestic T20 competition. Before him, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mustafizur Rahman represented English counties in the tournament, each contributing to the growing reputation of Bangladeshi cricketers in overseas competitions.

For Hasan, the opportunity comes at an important stage of his international career.

Although he remains a regular member of Bangladesh’s Test plans, he has not featured in a Twenty20 International for the national team over the past year. Strong performances in one of the world’s most competitive domestic T20 tournaments could significantly enhance his prospects of reclaiming a place in Bangladesh’s white-ball squads ahead of future international assignments.

Hasan has already established himself as a reliable pace option in the shortest format. In 26 T20 Internationals for Bangladesh, he has claimed 28 wickets, demonstrating his ability to strike with both the new ball and during the middle overs.

His most recent domestic T20 campaign also underlined his growing effectiveness. Playing for Noakhali Express in the latest Bangladesh Premier League, Hasan collected 16 wickets in 10 matches while maintaining an outstanding economy rate of just six runs per over. His disciplined bowling and ability to contain opposition batters made him one of the competition’s standout pace bowlers.

Kent are expected to rely on those qualities as they push for a place in the Vitality Blast knockout stages. With the tournament entering a crucial phase, every remaining group match carries significant importance in determining qualification for the latter rounds.

Speaking in Kent’s official statement, Hasan expressed his delight at returning to the county and his determination to contribute to the team’s campaign.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kent and I’m delighted to be back with the opportunity to contribute in the Vitality Blast,” he said. “We have three important matches ahead of us, and I want to give my very best to help the team reach the knockout stages.”

The coming days could therefore prove pivotal for Hasan Mahmud. Another successful spell in English conditions would not only strengthen Kent’s pursuit of a place in the knockout phase but could also reinforce his credentials for a long-awaited return to Bangladesh’s white-ball side. After announcing himself in county cricket with the red ball, he now has the chance to make an equally strong impression in the shortest format.
