Mymensingh Murder Case Names Eleven Suspects

A murder case has been filed against eleven named individuals, including a landlady, along with three to four unidentified suspects, following the killing of 38-year-old Rajib Ahmed Rubel in Mymensingh city. Police have also formally arrested two men who were initially detained for questioning as the investigation into the fatal attack continues.

The case was lodged on Monday night at Kotwali Model Police Station by the victim’s father, Md Abdul Hamid.

According to the first information report (FIR), Rajib Ahmed Rubel had rented a house in the 36 Bari Colony on RK Mission Road around 15 days before the incident and had been living there alone. The complaint alleges that disagreements began to emerge within a few days of his moving in, primarily involving the landlady, Parul Begum, over various issues related to the tenancy.

The FIR further states that the dispute gradually intensified, with the landlady allegedly pressuring Rajib to vacate the property without delay. Although he reportedly requested additional time to move out, the complaint claims that the landlady and her sons repeatedly intimidated him and issued threats to his life.

The alleged confrontation reached its climax on Sunday morning between approximately 9:30 am and 10:00 am. According to the complaint, another argument broke out over the demand that Rajib leave the rented accommodation. It is alleged that the landlady, her sons and several other accused individuals entered Rajib’s room, restrained him and repeatedly attacked his neck with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene.

After receiving the news, Rajib’s father arrived at the residence and found his son’s blood-soaked body lying on the bed inside the bedroom. A call was subsequently made to the national emergency service, 999, prompting police officers, along with members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), to attend the scene. Investigators recovered the body and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Soon after the killing, Detective Branch (DB) police detained two individuals, identified as Rony and Sajal, for questioning. On Monday night, they were handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station and formally shown as arrested in connection with the murder case. Police said the suspects would be produced before the court in accordance with legal procedures.

The brutal nature of the killing has generated widespread concern and discussion among local residents. Law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to determine the full sequence of events, identify any additional individuals involved and apprehend those who remain at large.

Rajan Chandra Pal, the Investigation Officer of Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed that the case names eleven accused persons while also including three to four unidentified suspects. He said the two men previously detained had been formally arrested and would be presented before the court. Police operations to locate and arrest the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Investigators have stressed that the exact motive behind the killing has not yet been conclusively established. They said the post-mortem findings, forensic evidence and other information gathered during the investigation will play a crucial role in determining the circumstances surrounding the homicide and in guiding the next stages of the legal process.
