The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has undergone a significant administrative reshuffle, with six officials holding the rank of Deputy Commissioner (DC) being reassigned to new roles. The official directive was issued on Monday, 6th July, through an office order signed by the DMP Commissioner, Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.
This restructuring is part of a routine yet strategic realignment within the capital’s primary law enforcement agency, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, streamlining traffic management, and strengthening administrative capabilities across various divisions.
The new postings affect several crucial departments within the metropolitan police infrastructure, including traffic regulation, intelligence analysis, and logistics.
Administration and Traffic-Motijheel: Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Amir Khasru, who was previously serving in the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division, has been reassigned to the Traffic-Motijheel Division. He replaces Dewan Jalal Uddin Chowdhury.
Intelligence Analysis Division: Dewan Jalal Uddin Chowdhury, following his departure from the Traffic-Motijheel Division, has been posted to the Intelligence Analysis Division.
Traffic-Uttara and Traffic-Gulshan: Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Shahjahan Hosein has been transferred from the Intelligence Analysis Division to the Traffic-Uttara Division. Concurrently, Mohammed Anwar Sayeed, who was overseeing the Traffic-Uttara Division, has been moved to take charge of the Traffic-Gulshan Division.
Headquarters and Logistics: Furthermore, Mohammed Shahriar Ali, formerly of the Detective Branch (Gulshan Division), has been integrated into the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division. The final reassignment in the order directs Mohammed Robiul Hasan to assume responsibilities within the DMP Logistics Division.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police, established in 1976 to maintain law and order in the capital city, operates in a highly challenging urban environment. Managing a metropolis with a population exceeding 20 million requires constant adaptation, making departmental reshuffles a standard mechanism to prevent institutional inertia and tackle emerging civic challenges.
The reassignment of three high-ranking officials specifically within the traffic divisions—Motijheel, Uttara, and Gulshan—underscores the authorities’ ongoing focus on addressing Dhaka’s notorious traffic congestion. These sectors represent critical commercial and residential hubs where traffic management directly impacts daily governance and public satisfaction.
Similarly, rotating personnel between specialised units like the Intelligence Analysis Division, the Detective Branch, and core administrative roles is a vital strategy. It ensures that senior officers gain diverse operational experience, which ultimately strengthens the broader framework of metropolitan policing and security management in Bangladesh. According to the official notification, these orders are to take effect immediately.
