The body of a 22-year-old man, who had been missing for three days, was recovered by the police from a waterlogged field in Habiganj’s Madhabpur upazila. The deceased, identified as Ali Hossain, was a resident of Mahadebpur village under the Dharamghar union precinct and the son of Abdul Ahad. Local residents spotted his body floating in monsoon rainwater accumulated in a agricultural field near his house on Monday morning and immediately alerted the authorities.
Hossain was a hard-working individual who balanced two jobs to support his family, working at a local eatery and assisting as a mason’s helper on construction sites. According to family sources, he left his home three days ago with the intention of travelling to Harashpur Bazar. Alarm bells rang when he failed to return home by nightfall. His anxious family members subsequently conducted extensive searches across various neighbourhoods and potential destinations, but their efforts yielded no results. In a bid to locate him, relatives and well-wishers also turned to social media, circulating multiple appeals on Facebook, which were widely shared within the local community.
The search ended tragically on Monday morning when some villagers noticed a body floating face down in the deep rainwater filling a nearby field. Upon closer inspection, they recognized the distinctive clothing of the missing youth and confirmed his identity. The Madhabpur police station was promptly notified of the discovery. A team of police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards to retrieve the body from the water.
The discovery has cast a dark shadow over the entire village, with distraught relatives gathering at the scene, demanding a transparent and swift investigation to uncover the true circumstances surrounding his death. The atmosphere remained heavy with grief as his parents wept openly for their lost son.
Md Sohel Rana, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhabpur Police Station, confirmed that a police team had successfully recovered the body. Law enforcement officials have already commenced preparing the preliminary inquest report to document the state of the body. To determine the exact cause of death, the body is being dispatched to the Habiganj Modern District Sadar Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination. The police chief stated that a clearer picture will emerge once the medical report is available, adding that the process for initiating formal legal action is currently underway.
