Eight-Hour Gas Outage Scheduled for Key Areas in Dhaka

Residents and commercial entities in several prominent neighbourhoods of Dhaka will experience an eight-hour disruption in gas supply on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. The state-run gas distribution monopoly, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company PLC, announced the temporary shutdown through an emergency press release issued on Monday. The planned outage is essential to facilitate critical engineering work, specifically targeting the replacement of ageing, leaky distribution pipelines and the installation of new service lines to ensure safety and network integrity.

According to the official notification from Titas Gas, the suspension will commence at 12:00 pm and is scheduled to continue until 8:00 pm. During this eight-hour window, technical teams will execute complex repair and maintenance works to minimise long-term leakages and safety hazards across the urban grid. The company clarified that all categories of consumers, including domestic households and commercial establishments, will face complete disruption within the designated zones.

The specific locations directly impacted by the maintenance drive include Free School Street, Hatirpool, Pukurpar, and parts of Dhanmondi. Additionally, households and business entities situated in Bhuter Goli, Kitchen Road, Al Amin Road, and Kathalbagan will also experience a total cut-off in gas supply. The authority warned that the maintenance work could cause a knock-on effect in adjacent neighbourhoods, where consumers might notice a significant drop in gas pressure during the afternoon and evening hours.

The maintenance initiative forms part of a broader effort by Titas Gas to modernise the capital’s decades-old underground distribution infrastructure, which has frequently suffered from leakage-related pressure drops. Titas Gas officials have urged residents in the affected areas to complete their daily culinary preparations before the noon deadline. The utility provider expressed its sincere regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to its consumers, assuring them that supply would be restored promptly across the network once the engineering teams complete the pipe replacement project.
