Four Bodies Recovered Across Three Sub-Districts in Naogaon

Police recovered the bodies of four individuals, including a newly married couple, from three sub-districts of Naogaon on Sunday, 26 July. The fatalities occurred across Badalgachhi, Atrai, and Raninagar, prompting a wave of grief and concern across the district.

The most tragic incident took place in Badalgachhi sub-district, where a newlywed couple drowned in a canal. The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Nur Islam and his 18-year-old wife, Sumaiya Akhtar. Nur Islam, a resident of Bedbaria village in Meherpur’s Gangni sub-district, married Sumaiya, a native of Kartikahar village in Badalgachhi, six months ago.

According to local residents and police, the couple had arrived at Sumaiya’s parental home on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday afternoon, Nur Islam went to bathe in a nearby canal alongside several locals while Sumaiya waited on the bank. When Nur Islam suddenly slipped into deep water and began to sink, Sumaiya jumped in to save him. Neither returned to the surface. Local villagers initiated a search operation and managed to recover both unconscious bodies within half an hour. They were rushed to the Badalgachhi Sub-district Health Complex, where attending doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Officer-in-Charge of Badalgachhi Police Station, Mohammad Ruhul Amin, stated that preliminary inquest reports revealed no physical injury marks on either body. Legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.

Earlier that morning, police in Atrai sub-district recovered the hanging body of 28-year-old Limon Hasan from his residence in Bandaikhara Sardar Para village. Family members stated that Limon went to sleep in his room on Saturday night. When he failed to respond to calls on Sunday morning, relatives broke open the door and discovered him hanging from a ceiling fan. Police retrieved the body and transferred it to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Officer-in-Charge of Atrai Police Station, Mahbub Alam, confirmed that an unnatural death case has been registered.

In Raninagar sub-district, a 55-year-old farmer named Abdul Mondal drowned in a local marsh. Mondal, a resident of Belbari village, had travelled by boat with his wife at around 9:00 am to gather cattle fodder. On their return journey, he accidentally fell overboard into deep water. Following a three-and-a-half-hour joint search operation involving local residents, the fire service, and a diving team, his body was recovered at 12:30 pm. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local health facility. Officer-in-Charge of Raninagar Police Station, Md Zakaria Mondal, confirmed that an unnatural death case was filed.
