Dengue Claims Three More Lives as 458 Are Hospitalised

Bangladesh has reported three more dengue-related fatalities over the past 24 hours, according to official figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday. The latest victims include two women and one man, highlighting the ongoing public health challenge posed by the mosquito-borne virus across the country.

During the same 24-hour period, another 458 patients were admitted to various hospitals nationwide with dengue fever. The influx has placed renewed strain on healthcare facilities, where medical teams continue to manage a rising number of cases.

With these latest figures, the national casualty toll from dengue since January has reached 43. Gender-wise distribution provided by health officials reveals that 25 of the deceased were female and 18 male, pointing to a noticeably higher fatality rate among women this year.

Total admissions across the country have now climbed to 13,098 since the beginning of the year. Health experts attribute the persistent transmission primarily to the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in stagnant water accumulated during intermittent rains and hot, humid conditions.

Medical professionals stress that early diagnosis remains critical to preventing severe complications such as dengue haemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Patients experiencing sudden high fever, joint pain, or severe weakness are advised to seek prompt medical advice and undergo testing rather than relying on self-medication.

Health authorities continue to urge residents to maintain clean surroundings, clear standing water from domestic containers, and use mosquito nets to curb the spread of the vector-borne disease.
