Boalkhali Youth League Leader Arrested Over Protest Attack Case

Police have arrested Jager Hossain Bacha, 40, a leader of the Bangladesh Awami League’s youth wing, in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram in connection with a case filed over an alleged attack during a student-led public movement.

Bacha was arrested from his home in Chandarpara, in the West Gomdandi area of Ward No. 9 under Boalkhali municipality, at around midnight on Monday, 3 August, police said.

According to law enforcement officials, Bacha is the son of the late Abdul Motaleb and serves as the publicity secretary of the local ward unit of the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League.

Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozzafar Hossain confirmed the arrest. He said Bacha had been named as an accused in a case relating to an alleged attack during the student-public movement. Following his arrest, police produced him before a court, the officer added.

The arrest comes amid continuing legal action in a number of cases linked to violence and alleged attacks surrounding the student-led movement. Such cases have involved allegations against individuals associated with political organisations, although the specific allegations against each accused remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.

Police did not provide further details about the precise allegations against Bacha, including the date or circumstances of the alleged incident, in the information available about the arrest. The authorities have also not disclosed whether any other individuals have been arrested in the same case.
