A joint forces team came under gunfire from suspected criminals during a pre-dawn raid in the Chad Uddan area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, early today, leading to two fatalities and five arrests, according to an ISPR statement.
The operation was launched at 12:30 am based on intelligence that a gang was preparing for a robbery in the area. As the joint forces secured both ends of an alley, armed assailants opened fire from the rooftop of a one-story building, prompting security personnel to retaliate in self-defense.
Following the exchange, five suspects were arrested, and security forces recovered firearms and weapons, including a pistol, four rounds of ammunition, and a machete.
During a subsequent search of the rooftop, authorities discovered two bodies, indicating fatalities in the shootout.
The apprehended individuals have been handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station for legal proceedings, the ISPR release stated, adding that such operations will continue to safeguard lives and property.
