Foreign exchange rates remain closely watched in Bangladesh because of their direct relevance to remittances, international trade, overseas travel and cross-border financial transactions. With more than 10 million Bangladeshis living and working abroad, movements in major currencies can affect the value of money sent home by expatriate workers and the cost of foreign-currency payments.
Businesses also monitor exchange rates when settling import bills, receiving export proceeds or making payments to overseas suppliers and service providers. For individuals, the rates are particularly relevant when sending money abroad, receiving remittances or converting foreign currency.
On Saturday, 8 August 2026, the Bangladeshi taka was quoted at Tk123.34 against the US dollar. The British pound stood considerably higher at Tk167.03, while the euro was valued at Tk145.23. These currencies are among the most widely followed benchmarks for international transactions involving Bangladesh.
Among the Gulf currencies listed, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest value against the taka at Tk403.01 per dinar. The Bahraini dinar was quoted at Tk328.35, while the Omani rial stood at Tk321. Saudi Arabia’s rial was valued at Tk33, and the United Arab Emirates dirham at Tk33.69. Qatar’s rial was quoted at Tk33.99.
The Malaysian ringgit was valued at Tk30.23, reflecting the importance of the currency for Bangladeshis working and living in Malaysia. The Singapore dollar stood at Tk97.03.
Among currencies from the wider Asia-Pacific region, the Australian dollar was quoted at Tk87.67 and the New Zealand dollar at Tk72.99. The Canadian dollar stood at Tk88.51. Exchange rates are not fixed and can change during the day in response to movements in international currency markets, demand and supply, banking transactions and broader economic conditions. The actual rate offered by a bank or authorised money-changing institution may therefore differ from the quoted figures.
Anyone sending or receiving foreign currency should check the latest applicable rate before completing a transaction, particularly where the amount involved is substantial.
