Government Plans 400-Acre BSCIC Industrial Park to Boost Bogura

BOGURA — The Bangladesh government has unveiled plans to establish a 400-acre industrial park under the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in Bogura to accommodate the region’s expanding small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.

The announcement was made on Saturday by Commerce, Industries, and Textiles Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir during his address as the chief guest at the installation ceremony of the newly elected committee of the Bogura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held at the MomIn Convention Centre in Bogura.

Rectifying Regional Economic Disparities

Speaking at the gathering, the Minister emphasized that formal government surveys indicate immense potential for industrial expansion in Bogura, a potential that remained largely untapped over previous decades. He acknowledged that the district had faced developmental neglect for twenty years, despite its hardworking population contributing significantly to the national economy.

Highlighting the district’s economic output, the Minister noted that Bogura is a food-surplus region whose locally manufactured and processed goods generate a market turnover of approximately ৳3,500 crore annually across domestic and international markets. The planned 400-acre BSCIC industrial park aims to address these historical imbalances by supplying light engineering, manufacturing, and agricultural processing enterprises with modern infrastructure, utility connections, and administrative support.

The installation event was inaugurated by Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, Sheikh Robiul Islam. In his opening remarks, he praised the district’s political and historical legacy, paying tribute to former President Ziaur Rahman as a native of Bogura whose contributions to nation-building remain memorable.

Broad Development Agenda Announced

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Mir Shahe Alam, outlined a broad range of infrastructure initiatives designed to transform the northern district into a commercial hub.

According to the State Minister, the foundational stone for the long-awaited Bogura-Sirajganj railway line will be laid by the Prime Minister in November or December. Preparations are also underway to make the Bogura airport operational for domestic commercial flights by January 2027. Construction work on a drone manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin next month, while flyovers will be constructed over urban railway crossings to alleviate severe traffic congestion in Bogura city.

Government representatives further highlighted additional development commitments, including the establishment of a multidisciplinary university, a dedicated Bogura Road Zone, a sports village featuring an international football stadium, and an environmental restoration scheme for the Karatoya River. Local entrepreneurs and business leaders welcomed these announcements, expressing confidence that the proposed investments will revitalize commerce throughout the northern region.
