Anupam Kher Affirms Commitment to Art Over Politics: ‘Being a Great Citizen is Enough’

Veteran actor Anupam Kher recently addressed inquiries about his potential involvement in full-time politics during an interactive #AskAnupam session on X (formerly Twitter). A fan suggested he would be an asset to the Modi government if he joined politics full-time. In response, Kher expressed his belief that contributing positively to the country doesn’t necessitate a political role. He stated, “Thank you for the suggestion and your appreciation! But I believe to be an asset for the country you don’t have to join politics! You just have to be a great citizen.”

Throughout the session, Kher engaged with fans on various topics, including lighthearted advice on embracing baldness. He humorously recommended, “You don’t need to embrace baldness. Just shave your head. And you will be an esteemed member of the prestigious club of baldies.”

Earlier in the day, Kher experienced a temporary lock on his X account, which was swiftly resolved. He expressed his surprise, noting his adherence to platform rules since joining in September 2007, and sought clarification on the specific post that might have violated any guidelines.

On the professional front, Kher recently appeared in Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency,’ depicting the political unrest during the 1975-77 Emergency under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Despite its historical significance, the film did not perform well at the box office. Looking ahead, Kher has announced his next project, an untitled film with Prabhas, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, marking his 544th film.
