Man Decapitated and Dismembered After Facebook Affair Trap

A tragic tale of online romance, marital discord, and premeditated violence culminated in the gruesome murder of a 24-year-old corporate employee in Dhaka. Details submitted to court by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) paint a chilling picture of how an extra-marital affair initiated over social media turned into a deadly conspiracy, leaving a young man dismembered into nine pieces and disposed of across two separate districts.

Digital Romance turned Deadly Conspiracy

Sazzad Hossain, an honors graduate from a local college and the only child of his parents, lived in Hemayetpur, Savar. He worked at a private firm in Banani, commuting daily from his family residence. Roughly two months prior to his murder on 3 April 2025, Sazzad initiated contact with Sumaiya Trishna, 26, through a fake Facebook profile operating under the pseudonym “Supto”.

Sumaiya, a third-year undergraduate student at a private university in Dhaka, engaged in an increasingly intimate relationship with Sazzad. However, she was secretly married to her university classmate, Roknuzzaman Palash, 26, having tied the knot in 2023 without their families’ knowledge. Whilst Sumaiya lived with her family in Mohammadpur, Roknuzzaman resided in a student mess apartment in Mochila, Dhaka.

The dynamics escalated after private photographs were exchanged between Sazzad and Sumaiya. Although Sumaiya later claimed in court statements that she accidentally sent explicit photos meant for her husband to Sazzad and faced subsequent blackmail, lead investigator Police Inspector Jamal Uddin of PBI Dhaka District confirmed that the pair maintained a mutually romantic and physical relationship.

When Roknuzzaman discovered the illicit affair, severe marital strain ensued. To deflect blame and convince her husband of her innocence, Sumaiya agreed to collaborate in a scheme to eliminate Sazzad.

Premeditated Execution at Mochila Mess

On the evening of 2 April 2025, Roknuzzaman procured a mobile SIM card registered under a local rickshaw puller’s identity by paying him 500 BDT. Using this unregistered contact, Sumaiya telephoned Sazzad under her husband’s instructions, inviting him over to the Mochila apartment early the next morning under the pretext that the premises were completely vacant for the Eid holidays.

Sazzad arrived at the seventh-floor flat around 6:00 AM on 3 April. As he entered and embraced Sumaiya, Roknuzzaman emerged from his hiding place in the adjacent bathroom and launched a ferocious knife attack, inflicting heavy stab wounds to Sazzad’s face and back. Following a brief struggle, the victim collapsed to the floor and succumbed to his injuries.

Finding the apartment floor soaked in blood and recognizing the difficulty of transporting a full body unnoticed, the couple resolved to dismember the corpse. They purchased sacks, rice bags, large cardboard cartons, and heavy-duty adhesive tape. Sazzad’s body was severed into nine parts, tightly packed into three separate cartons, and wrapped to obscure any suspicion.

Disposal Across Districts and Police Investigation

Later that evening, the couple hired a private car for 4,500 BDT to transport the remains. Driving towards Mawa in Munshiganj, they stopped for dinner before dumping the packages in remote locations on their return journey.

One carton was discarded into a drain near the Padma Bridge (North) police station area in Medinimondol, Munshiganj. The remaining two cartons were abandoned in a low-lying marshy area near Malancha Hospital Road in Shubhadya Union, Keraniganj.

On 4 April 2025, stray dogs ripped open one of the abandoned cartons in Keraniganj, exposing human remains and prompting local residents to notify law enforcement. PBI officers retrieved the body parts and simultaneously located the missing carton in Munshiganj.

Biometric fingerprint scanning alongside DNA profiling from bone, tooth, and nail samples at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital confirmed the remains belonged to Sazzad, whose father had lodged a missing person’s diary at Savar Model Police Station on the night of 3 April.

Cross-Border Escape Attempt and Legal Proceedings

Following the crime, the suspects planned to escape to India via the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga, Roknuzzaman’s home district. To mislead tracking systems, Sumaiya sent her primary SIM card to her ancestral home in Feni while she travelled by bus towards Jibannagar.

PBI investigators unravelled the trail by tracing the mobile call records back to the rickshaw puller, who identified Roknuzzaman as the buyer of the SIM card. Detecting Sumaiya’s movement, a PBI officer boarded the same long-distance bus undercover. At 1:30 AM on 8 April 2025, officers intercepted Sumaiya upon her arrival at Jibannagar bus stand, subsequently arresting Roknuzzaman shortly after.

Inspector Jamal Uddin formally submitted the charge-sheet against both accused on 30 September 2025, naming 40 witnesses. The trial is currently ongoing at the testimony phase in a Dhaka court. Sumaiya’s defence counsel, Mozammel Hossain, stated that inconsistencies exist between the charge-sheet details and the judicial confessions recorded under Section 164.

Grieving his lost son, Sazzad’s father, Mohammad Yousuf Ali, recalled reviewing CCTV footage that showed his son leaving home at 5:45 AM on the day he disappeared. “My son was a good boy with no known enemies,” Ali said, requesting maximum punishment for the perpetrators as the court continues its proceedings.
