Full Report:
With Pakistan’s military focus largely directed at its eastern border amid ongoing conflicts with India, Baloch rebels have seized the moment to intensify their fight for independence. On Thursday, Baloch fighters launched a series of fierce, coordinated attacks against Pakistani security forces across Balochistan, including the provincial capital, Quetta, and districts like Kech, Mastung, and Kachi.
According to Radio Zrumbesh, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) carried out at least six separate attacks, targeting Pakistani military personnel and installations. In one such strike, a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) was used against a bomb disposal squad in Dashtuk, Kech District, killing at least one soldier. In a separate incident, BLA fighters assaulted a Pakistani outpost in Katgan, also in Kech, reportedly inflicting significant casualties.
Symbolic Moves and Strategic Gains
As the conflict rages on, images and videos have surfaced online showing Baloch citizens tearing down Pakistani flags and replacing them with their own, signalling a bold rejection of Islamabad’s control over the mineral-rich region.
Prominent Baloch activist Mir Yar Baloch took to social media platform X, declaring:
“We have declared our independence and request India to allow the opening of Balochistan’s office and embassy in New Delhi.”
He further demanded that the United Nations recognise the “Democratic Republic of Balochistan” as a sovereign state and convene a meeting of all UN member states to support this recognition. Baloch also called for substantial international financial support, including funds for currency and passport printing for the nascent state.
“We urge the United Nations to immediately deploy peacekeeping missions in Balochistan and demand that Pakistan’s occupational forces leave all weapons, property, and territories behind as they vacate Balochistan.”
Leadership and Future Governance
Mir Yar Baloch also outlined plans for an interim transitional government, promising representation for Baloch women in the new cabinet as a demonstration of the state’s commitment to equality and inclusivity.
“The control of Balochistan will soon be handed over to the new government of the independent Balochistan state, and a transitional interim government will be announced shortly. In keeping with our commitment to our nation, Baloch women will be represented in the cabinet.”
Increasing Pressure on Pakistan
The escalating conflict comes in the wake of former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s recent remarks, warning that Pakistan’s government and military are rapidly losing control over Balochistan, particularly after dark. Abbasi openly challenged the narrative put forth by Pakistan’s current military chief, General Asim Munir, who has downplayed the scale of the uprising.
“Whatever Asim Munir may say is his opinion. I am only stating what I saw,” Abbasi said in a recent public statement.
On 6th May, just days after Abbasi’s remarks, the BLA launched a deadly series of attacks in Bolan and Kech, reportedly killing 14 Pakistani soldiers.
