Dhaka, 27 May 2025 – The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has officially clarified that the Bangladesh Army will not be deployed for waste management related to Eid-ul-Azha or for mosquito control operations, countering recent reports that misrepresented statements by DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz.
Several recent news stories had quoted Administrator Mohammad Azaz as suggesting military deployment for:
Eid waste management
Mosquito and dengue control efforts
However, the DNCC has firmly refuted these claims, stating that such interpretations were inaccurate and misleading.
In a formal press release issued on Tuesday, the DNCC stated:
“The Bangladesh Army will not be responsible for handling sacrificial animal waste or mosquito control during the upcoming Eid. These responsibilities lie entirely with DNCC.”
Organisation in Charge: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC)
Scope: Collection, disposal and sanitation post-Qurbani
Involvement of Armed Forces: None
Administrator Azaz reaffirmed that the DNCC is fully equipped and ready to manage the increased waste generation during Eid-ul-Azha.
Although the Bangladesh Army itself will not participate, there will be technical collaboration via a state-owned enterprise under military management:
| Entity | Role |
|---|---|
| Bangladesh Army | No direct involvement |
| Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF) | Providing technical support in mosquito control measures |
BMTF, which operates under the management of the Bangladesh Army, will extend technical assistance during the monsoon dengue season, helping the DNCC manage the public health risk effectively.
The DNCC further highlighted that:
BMTF has previously supported mosquito control campaigns in:
Sylhet
Chattogram
Narayanganj
While clarifying the army’s non-involvement in Eid operations, the DNCC also acknowledged the Bangladesh Army’s pivotal role in:
Safeguarding national sovereignty
Maintaining public security
Infrastructure development across Bangladesh
The corporation expressed gratitude and pride for the army’s continued contributions to national development and crisis management.
The DNCC urges media outlets and the public to verify facts before dissemination. With the upcoming Eid and monsoon season ahead, it reassures citizens that comprehensive preparations are in place for both waste management and dengue prevention, without the deployment of army troops.
