A trivial dispute over a domestic duck escalated into a fatal violent clash in Kachua Upazila of Bagerhat, leaving a 65-year-old elderly man dead and his son injured. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising fresh concerns over how minor neighborhood disagreements can rapidly spiral into irreversible tragedies.
The confrontation took place late on Saturday night at approximately 10:00 PM in the Uttara Bhandarkhola area under Ward 8 of Raripara Union within Kachua Upazila. The deceased has been identified as Bedar Mollah (65), a permanent resident of the locality. His injured son, Qaiyum (26), is currently receiving medical treatment at the local health complex.
According to local residents and family members, the altercation began earlier in the evening due to a minor disagreement involving a neighbor’s domestic duck straying onto the wrong property. What initially started as heated verbal sparring between the families quickly deteriorated into a physical confrontation.
Members of the victim’s family alleged that their neighbor Ramzan, alongside his wife Lamia, his parents, and their son, launched a sudden and violent assault. Armed with wooden sticks and door bars, the attackers allegedly beat Bedar Mollah, his wife Halima, their son Qaiyum, and their daughter-in-law Sumi. Bedar Mollah sustained critical injuries during the melee and collapsed unconscious on the ground.
Swift action by local bystanders helped rescue the injured family members, who were rushed immediately to the Kachua Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, the duty medical officer examined Bedar Mollah and pronounced him dead. Qaiyum remains admitted to the hospital for ongoing care, while two other family members received primary medical attention for their injuries.
Law enforcement authorities acted promptly following the incident. Police arrived at the scene to restore order and detained Ramzan, his wife Lamia, and his mother Fatema for questioning. Official sources confirmed that legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station, Abdullah Mamun, stated that the clash erupted directly from a dispute over domestic ducks, resulting in one fatality and injuries to the victim’s son. Several individuals have been taken into police custody in connection with the violence. An investigation is actively underway to uncover all details, and strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.
