A poignant tragedy has struck the educational community of Ullapara in Sirajganj, where a 45-year-old primary schoolteacher lost his life following a severe road traffic accident on Sunday morning.
The deceased, identified as Mosharaf Hossain, was a assistant teacher at Suja Government Primary School in Ullapara. A resident of Kaliyakair village within the sub-district, he was the son of Kamrul Hasan.
The fatal incident occurred around 7:30 am in the Gasline Hat area of the municipality, situated along the busy Ullapara-Mohanpur regional highway. Eyewitness accounts indicate that Mr Hossain was riding his motorcycle towards Lahiri Mohanpur when he attempted to overtake a heavily laden 12-wheeler lorry carrying stones, which was travelling in the same direction. During the overtake, an oncoming auto-rickshaw carrying passengers appeared in the opposing lane. In a desperate attempt to avert a head-on collision with the three-wheeler, Mr Hossain applied his brakes suddenly.
The abrupt braking caused him to lose control of his motorcycle, pitching him directly onto the tarmac. Tragically, the oncoming stone-laden lorry was unable to halt in time, running over the teacher and inflicting fatal injuries. Paramedics and bystanders confirmed that he died instantly at the scene.
The immediate aftermath of the crash resulted in significant traffic disruptions along the regional artery, leaving vehicles stranded for a considerable period. Local law enforcement officers quickly dispatched a team to clear the obstruction, secure the site, and safely recover the victim’s body. Police seized both the severely damaged motorcycle and the 12-wheeler heavy goods vehicle involved in the collision. However, the lorry driver and his assistant fled the scene shortly after the impact and remain at large.
speaking on the incident, the Officer-in-Charge of Ullapara Police Station, Md Mehedi Hasan, stated that officers acted swiftly to normalize traffic flow and escort the body to the station for legal formalities. Operations are currently underway to trace and apprehend the absconding driver and assistant, whilst official legal proceedings remain pending.
