A local political figure in Netrokona’s Kendua Upazila is facing severe allegations of leading a horrific campaign of gang rape against a schoolgirl, which has left the teenage victim six months pregnant. Law enforcement authorities have arrested a second named suspect, 36-year-old Abu Miah, whilst launching a manhunt for the primary accused, Bakul Miah, 50, who remains at large.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station, Mohammad Tariqul Islam, confirmed the legal developments on Wednesday evening, 26 August. The victim’s father formally lodged a case on Tuesday night, naming Bakul Miah—who serves as the Joint Assistant General Secretary of Kendua Pourashava BNP and General Secretary of the Ward No. 5 unit—alongside four other named individuals and several unidentified accomplices. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police conducted a midnight raid and apprehended Abu Miah.
According to the official First Information Report (FIR) and statements provided by the victim’s family, the victim is currently a tenth-grade student at a local secondary school. The ordeal began on 20 November 2022, when she was merely a class six pupil. Bakul Miah allegedly took the child to a house, sexually assaulted her, and surreptitiously filmed the abuse. He subsequently used the explicit video footage as leverage, threatening to release it publicly to coerce her into repeated sexual exploitation over the following years.
The formal complaint reveals a disturbing escalation in the pattern of abuse. Around March or April 2025, a female associate of Bakul Miah lured the student to a rented property. Upon her arrival, Bakul Miah led a group of men who subjected her to gang rape. The systematic abuse continued across multiple locations from January through July of this year.
The victim’s family reported that the ordeal only came to light on 1 August, after a video clip of the abuse began circulating locally. Sensing something was deeply wrong, her parents arranged a medical check-up at a private clinic on 18 August, where clinical tests confirmed she was six months pregnant.
Relating her harrowing experience, the victim disclosed that Bakul Miah and Abu Miah repeatedly transported her to various rented premises, using the threat of public humiliation to force her into abusive encounters with multiple individuals. Distraught yet resolute, the teenager has demanded exemplary legal punishment for all perpetrators involved.
Political repercussions have followed the public revelation. Moazzem Hossain, General Secretary of Kendua Pourashava BNP, confirmed that the party administration has taken official note of the gravity of the charges. He assured that strict organizational measures, including immediate disciplinary action, will be enforced against Bakul Miah.
Meanwhile, local police are proceeding with legal formalities. OC Mohammad Tariqul Islam stated that the arrested suspect, Abu Miah, has been produced before the local court and remanded to judicial custody. Emergency police units are continuing coordinated raids across the region to locate and arrest Bakul Miah and the remaining co-accused.
