Law enforcement agencies in Netrokona’s Purbadhala Upazila have arrested fourteen individuals associated with the Chhatra League following an attempt to stage a flash procession. The joint operations, conducted by the local police and the District Detective Branch (DB), took place in the early hours of Friday, 28 August, near the Pabai section of the Shyamganj-Birishiri road within the Khalishaur Union.

According to police accounts, a group of activists led by Hasib Ibn Hannan Ridom, Joint General Secretary of the Netrokona District Chhatra League, assembled in the area shortly before dawn. Alerted by local village police officers who noticed the unlawful assembly, a team from Purbadhala Police Station rushed to the spot. Upon the arrival of the law enforcement vehicle, the assembled crowd attempted to flee on motorbikes. Officers pursued the fleeing suspects, managing to apprehend eleven individuals at the scene whilst seizing three motorcycles used in the getaway attempt.

Following the initial arrests, the Detective Branch launched targeted follow-up raids across neighboring areas. Their officers arrested Arif Jahan Bijoy (19) from Sukhari and Rudra Miah (19) from Srirampasha, both located within Atpara Upazila. A third individual was subsequently traced and taken into custody from Gouripur in the adjacent Mymensingh district, bringing the total number of detainees to fourteen.

A case has been formally registered at Purbadhala Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The First Information Report explicitly names twenty-five members belonging to the Bangladesh Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Bangladesh Awami League, alongside twenty-five to thirty unnamed co-conspirators.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that all fourteen suspects were produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. He added that multi-agency drives remain underway to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects named in the case.
