Dhaka Drug Convict Serving 10-Year Sentence Arrested in Chattogram

A man sentenced to 10 years in prison in a drug case filed at Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka has been arrested in Chattogram by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7).

The accused, identified as Md Nur Nabi alias Ripon, was arrested on Sunday night, 6 September, following a tip-off. A team from RAB-7 conducted the operation in the Foy’s Lake area under Khulshi Police Station in Chattogram and took him into custody.

According to RAB, Ripon had been living with his family in the Pahartali area of Chattogram. Investigators said he had moved from Dhaka to Chattogram and had been residing in the Khulshi area in an attempt to evade arrest and remain beyond the reach of law enforcement.

Ripon was wanted in connection with a drug-related case filed at Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital. He was subsequently convicted in the case and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Despite the court’s verdict, he had managed to avoid arrest for an extended period by relocating to another city.

Law enforcement agencies frequently conduct operations to locate convicted individuals who remain at large after court proceedings. In such cases, information gathered from local sources and intelligence operations can help identify an accused person’s whereabouts, particularly when the individual moves away from the area where the original case was filed.

The arrest in Chattogram also highlights the role of inter-district law enforcement coordination in tracking fugitives and convicted offenders. Although Ripon had left Dhaka, the authorities continued efforts to establish his location and apprehend him.

Assistant Superintendent of Police A. R. M. Mozzafar Hossain of RAB-7 said Ripon was handed over to Khulshi Police Station for further legal action.

Following his arrest, the relevant police authorities are expected to take the necessary steps in accordance with the court’s sentence and the applicable legal procedures. The arrest brings the long-running effort to locate the convicted accused to a significant stage, with further proceedings now to be handled by the concerned police and judicial authorities.

The case originated in Dhaka, while the accused was ultimately traced and arrested in Chattogram, demonstrating how individuals wanted in criminal cases may attempt to avoid arrest by changing their place of residence. Law enforcement authorities continue to rely on intelligence-led operations to locate such suspects and convicted offenders across different parts of the country.
