Zillur Rahman: This Government Is Not Capable of Holding Elections

Renowned political analyst and television host Zillur Rahman has expressed strong doubts over the current government’s ability to hold credible elections. In a recent video message on his personal YouTube channel, Rahman stated that even if the government announces an election date, it is unlikely to see it through.

He questioned both the neutrality and capacity of the administration, noting that the national situation is becoming increasingly complicated.

Observations from Zillur Rahman’s Statement

Issue Remarks by Zillur Rahman
Election Feasibility “This government cannot conduct an election. Even if they set a date, they will likely fail to carry it out.”
Government Credibility “Their neutrality and capability are both under serious question.”
Democracy at Risk “If democratic processes aren’t secured, the situation will worsen. Unelected regimes never bring stability.”
Systemic Dysfunction “The government is neither functional nor delivering. Bangladesh is entering a dark phase.”
Political Uncertainty “Due to the political crisis, the country is vulnerable to unpredictable disasters.”
False Hope for February Election “Those who hoped for an election in February are now realising it may not happen. Even the government admits the conditions are unfavourable.”

On National Unity and NCP’s Role

Rahman emphasised the need for visible national unity to overcome the current impasse. He expressed disillusionment with the role and relevance of the National Consensus Party (NCP), calling it a “lost case”.

Commentary on NCP:

“There’s a lot of chatter around the NCP, but it has become irrelevant. The blame lies not just with the party but with those backing and advising it. Even the head of government has derailed its prospects.”

He added:

“The NCP alienated everyone. Its ideological alliances have deeply disappointed people. Foreign powers once sympathetic are now distancing themselves.”
