Netrokona Man Allegedly Hacked to Death by Son in Domestic Attack

A tragedy has struck the municipality of Madan in Netrokona district after a 65-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his own son inside their family home. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning, has left the local community in shock as law enforcement authorities move swiftly to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.

The deceased has been identified as Kundu Miah, also known locally as Elahi, a resident of Ward No. 6 within Madan municipality. According to family members and local police reports, the fatal event unfolded shortly after dawn when Mr Miah returned to his residence following morning prayers. Seeking a warm beverage, he entered the kitchen to prepare tea. Unbeknownst to him, his son, Yasin, approached from behind armed with a boti—a traditional curved household meat cleaver—and launched a sudden attack, striking his father severely on the back of the neck.

The catastrophic blow left Mr Miah critically injured and bleeding heavily on the kitchen floor. Relatives scrambled to his aid upon discovering the gruesome scene and rushed him to the nearest healthcare facility. Medical personnel at the hospital examined the elderly victim upon arrival; however, despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead due to the severity of the neck trauma and immense blood loss.

Following the violent outbreak, Yasin attempted to flee the premises to evade capture. Local authorities were alerted immediately, leading to a prompt police response that resulted in the suspect’s arrest before he could escape the area. He remains in police custody as investigators begin piecing together the events that led to the incident.

Speaking on the investigation, Saladdin Karim, the Officer-in-Charge of Madan Police Station, stated that initial statements gathered from relatives suggest the accused may suffer from psychological issues. Police are currently verifying these claims, reviewing his medical background, and gathering formal evidence from neighbours and extended family.

Legal proceedings against the detainee are underway. Meanwhile, police have taken charge of the body, arranging for its transfer to the Netrokona Medical College Hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
