Four Factory Workers Injured in Rupganj Air Compressor Explosion

Four industrial workers sustained severe burn injuries following a sudden air compressor explosion at a factory in Rupganj upazila under Narayanganj district. The industrial accident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on Monday, 2nd November 2026, while staff were engaged in routine operational duties during an evening shift at the manufacturing facility.

The force of the blast generated immediate panic and heavy smoke across the factory floor, prompting co-workers and local emergency responders to react quickly. Rescuers managed to extract the casualties from the hazardous area shortly after the explosion took place. Recognising the severity of their burn injuries, factory personnel arranged for the immediate transfer of all four victims to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka that same night for specialised medical intervention.

Hospital admission records identified the injured personnel as 30-year-old Ismail, 55-year-old Kamrul, 38-year-old Tapan, and 30-year-old Naimul. Clinical evaluations conducted upon their arrival at the hospital revealed significant variation in the extent of their injuries. Ismail suffered burn wounds across 20 per cent of his body, while Kamrul sustained 25 per cent burns, and Tapan received burns covering 12 per cent of his body. Naimul sustained the most devastating injuries from the blast wave and high heat, suffering burns over 42 per cent of his body in addition to severe trauma to his inhalation tract.

Dr Sultan Mahmud Shikdar, resident surgeon at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed that all four workers were admitted to the facility and placed under continuous clinical monitoring. He highlighted that Naimul remains in a highly critical condition due to the combined impact of extensive thermal skin damage and compromised airway passages, requiring intensive respiratory care and close medical observation.

Preliminary reports from fellow workers suggest that the heavy-duty air compressor experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure or internal pressure overload, resulting in an explosive rupture that discharged intense thermal energy onto nearby staff. Officers from Rupganj Police Station arrived at the factory premises to inspect the scene, gather physical evidence, and ascertain whether proper equipment maintenance protocols and industrial safety standards had been maintained prior to the accident.
