A group of Jubo League activists reportedly staged a brief flash rally in Sirajganj early on Thursday (10 September), with footage of the procession later circulating on social media.
According to local sources, around 50 to 60 people took part in the rally. They reportedly arrived on the highway in Hiace vehicles and motorcycles before suddenly forming a procession. During the rally, participants chanted ‘Joy Bangla’ and raised various slogans opposing the government.
The procession was short-lived. After marching for only a few minutes, the participants reportedly dispersed and quickly left the area.
Footage of the incident began circulating on social media at around 11am on Thursday, drawing attention to the brief gathering. However, the exact location shown in the video has not yet been established by police.
When contacted by phone, Sirajganj’s Jamuna Bridge West Police Station officer-in-charge (OC), Amirul Islam, was unavailable as he was on leave. Sub-Inspector Pronoy Kumar Pramanik answered the call and said he had seen the video of the flash rally.
However, he clarified that the procession did not take place on the highway within the jurisdiction of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station.
Police have yet to confirm where the rally was actually held or establish the identities of those who participated. The uncertainty over the location has also made it difficult to determine which police station would have jurisdiction over the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam Khan, who is in charge of the Raiganj Circle, said the exact location of the procession could not yet be determined. Police were attempting to verify the matter, he added.
The incident comes to public attention primarily through the video shared on social media. At present, police confirmation regarding the precise location and circumstances of the rally remains pending.
Authorities are expected to establish the location by examining the available footage and other relevant information. Until that verification is completed, the exact place where the procession took place remains unclear.
