Dengue Claims Six More Lives as Daily Hospital Admissions Surge

Bangladesh’s public health system faces renewed pressure as six more people have succumbed to dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Data released by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reveals that 1,492 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country over the same period.

The latest fatalities bring the national dengue death toll for the current year to 139. Meanwhile, total hospitalisations since January have mounted to 48,430, underscoring the relentless spread of the mosquito-borne virus as the monsoon season continues to foster breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito.

Regional distribution data indicates that hospital admissions remain widespread across all administrative divisions. Over the past 24 hours, Khulna division recorded the highest number of new admissions with 284 cases, closely followed by non-corporation areas within the Dhaka division, which logged 241 patients. In the capital, hospitalisations were split between the two municipal bodies: Dhaka North City Corporation reported 151 new admissions, while Dhaka South City Corporation registered 81.

Elsewhere in the country, Chattogram division recorded 202 new patients, Barishal division 178, and Rajshahi division 122. Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions reported 80, 54, and 13 cases respectively.

On a more reassuring note, 44,857 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged from medical centres across the country so far this year. Nevertheless, medical authorities continue to urge citizens to eliminate stagnant water, maintain household hygiene, and seek immediate medical attention upon displaying symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, or severe fatigue.
