Two Killed as Lorry Collides with Auto-Rickshaw in Mymensingh

A violent head-on collision between a heavy goods lorry and a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw has left two people dead and five others injured in Mymensingh. The fatal road accident occurred at around 12:30 pm on Friday, 11 September, at the Akua Bypass intersection in the city.
All victims and injured parties were passengers travelling aboard the small three-wheeler.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Sonia, 30, hailing from Jorbaria village in Phulbaria Upazila, and Md Sadek Ali, 27, son of Abdul Khalek from Choudar village under the same sub-district. Among the severely injured is Sonia’s six-year-old son, Sajid. The auto-rickshaw was carrying a total of six passengers alongside the driver at the time of the crash.
According to Al-Amin, in-charge of the police camp at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Sadek Ali was travelling to the facility to visit a relative who was undergoing treatment. He boarded the auto-rickshaw along with other commuters from Phulbaria. As the vehicle reached the busy Akua Bypass junction at midday, a fast-approaching lorry struck it head-on, crushing the auto-rickshaw on impact.
The severity of the crash killed Sonia instantly at the scene. Local residents rushed to assist, extricating the trapped passengers and arranging urgent transport to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Attending physicians pronounced Sadek Ali dead shortly after his arrival at the emergency department. Five other individuals, including young Sajid, remain under close medical supervision at the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, Mohammad Shibirul Islam, confirmed the incident, stating that police units arrived promptly to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow along the bypass. Both vehicles involved in the collision have been seized, while formal legal proceedings regarding reckless driving and fatal negligence remain underway.
