The incident occurred at around 10:15am on 5 November in the Taltola area, near the boundary between Konabari and Kashimpur.
Saidul Alam Chowdhury, Deputy Assistant Director of the Gazipur Fire Service, confirmed the incident. He said firefighters received information about the fire at a warehouse storing garment waste and immediately dispatched three units from the Bhogra Modern Fire Service Station.
The teams reached the scene and began efforts to extinguish the flames. After nearly 45 minutes of firefighting operations, they managed to bring the situation under control.
No deaths or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. However, the extent of damage to the warehouse and the materials stored inside could not be determined immediately.
The cause of the fire also remained unknown at the time of reporting. Fire Service officials did not provide any preliminary assessment of what might have triggered the blaze.
Scrap warehouses in industrial areas such as Kashimpur and Konabari often store discarded fabric, leftover materials and other waste generated by garment factories. These materials can be highly combustible, making fire safety an important concern in facilities where large quantities are kept together.
A fire in such a storage facility can spread quickly if adequate precautions are not in place. Proper electrical maintenance, safe storage arrangements and readily available firefighting equipment are among the essential measures for reducing such risks.
Gazipur is one of Bangladesh’s major industrial hubs, with numerous garment factories and related businesses operating across the district. Incidents involving stored industrial waste can therefore raise concerns about workplace safety and the protection of nearby facilities.
Although firefighters successfully contained Thursday’s blaze, the actual cause and financial losses will require further assessment. No additional details were immediately available from the Fire Service authorities.
