The deceased have been identified as Delowar Hossain Mintu, 55, and Md Rahat, a student enrolled at a local madrasa in the Masjid Gali area near the city’s Gate No. 2. Rahat was the son of Md Faruk, whose family originally hails from Chandraganj in Laxmipur District.

Eye-witnesses and railway police reported that Rahat was walking along the tracks near Sholashahar Station shortly after Friday congregational prayers. As the high-speed Tourist Express approached the crossing, Delowar Hossain Mintu spotted the boy in direct danger. Without hesitation, Mintu rushed onto the track and shoved Rahat clear of the oncoming engine. While his intervention pushed the child away from a direct collision, Mintu was struck by the train and died instantly at the scene.

Although thrown clear of the primary impact, Rahat suffered catastrophic injuries, losing an arm and a leg beneath the train wheels. Local residents rescued the critically injured boy and rushed him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to Ward 26. Despite emergency medical efforts, Rahat succumbed to severe blood loss two hours later.

Recounting the moments before the accident, Rahat’s father, Md Faruk, said his son had asked for 20 taka to buy snacks after Friday prayers. Shortly after giving him the money, he received news of the collision and rushed to the hospital, only to find his son severely maimed. Following the child’s death, the family made arrangements to transport his body to their ancestral home in Laxmipur for burial.

Officer-in-Charge of Chattogram Railway Police Station, Sujon Kumar Dey, confirmed that police completed the necessary legal formalities and handed over both bodies to their respective families. An unnatural death case has been registered with the railway police.
