Comilla Police Arrest Notorious ‘Lady Don’ in Debidwar

Police officers in Debidwar, Comilla, have apprehended the alleged mastermind behind an elusive honeytrap and blackmail ring, local sources confirmed on Friday. The suspect, a woman named Laily—widely known across the region by her epithet ‘Lady Don’—was taken into custody during a late-night law enforcement operation that also yielded a quantity of illegal narcotics.

Sub-Inspector Sagar Barua led the targeted raid on Laily’s residence, acting on precise intelligence gathered by local informants. Officers breached the property at approximately 2:00 am on Thursday night, catching the suspect off guard. A thorough search of the premises led to the discovery and seizure of illicit drugs, securing direct physical evidence alongside the long-standing complaints made against her activities.

Residents in Debidwar have long accused Laily of running an organized criminal syndicate designed to target, entrap, and extort unsuspecting individuals. According to local accounts, the gang enticed victims into compromising situations before issuing demands for substantial sums of money under threat of exposure or physical harm. Alongside extortion and blackmail, the network reportedly served as a key distribution node for illegal narcotics throughout the upazila and adjacent areas.

In recent years, law enforcement agencies across Bangladesh have intensified crackdowns on such organized syndicates, which frequently combine digital extortion, physical intimidation, and drug trafficking to exploit vulnerable citizens. The rise of local extortion networks operating under the guise of social setups has prompted police departments to rely more heavily on community intelligence and rapid-response night raids.

Addressing the operation, Debidwar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md Imran Hasan stated that the suspect is currently undergoing preliminary interrogation. Investigating officers are leveraging the initial questioning to identify remaining members of the syndicate and map out the full extent of their illicit operations.

Formal charges under the Narcotics Control Act and additional relevant sections of the penal code are being finalized. Police plan to present the suspect before the court following the conclusion of the initial interview process, while intelligence gathering continues to apprehend her associates.
