Police in Jhenaidah have apprehended a 45-year-old man on charges of forcibly raping a woman in the Maheshpur upazila. The suspect, identified as Anisur Rahman, son of the late Sonai Mondal, hails from Gokulnagar village within the same upazila. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, 16 September, following a swift police operation.
According to police records and the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday. The assault occurred inside a makeshift hut adjacent to an onion field in the Korincha Khamar area, situated within the Swaruppur Union of Maheshpur upazila.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Swapan Karmakar, 42, lodged a formal complaint at the Maheshpur Police Station under the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act. Acting promptly on the registered complaint, a police team launched a targeted drive and arrested Anisur Rahman, who had been named as the primary accused in the case.
Confirming the arrest, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Maheshpur Police Station, Md. Azad Rahman, stated that legal procedures were underway to produce the accused before the court. In line with standard protocols in such investigations, law enforcement authorities have also arranged for the victim to undergo a formal medical examination at a regional hospital to secure medical evidence for legal proceedings.
