A eighteen-year-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Thursday afternoon following a fatal multi-vehicle collision on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. The incident occurred near the Ashuka CNG fueling station in the Hijaltali area, highlighting the persistent danger of heavy traffic and reckless driving on one of Bangladesh’s busiest transport corridors.

The victim has been identified as Shamim Al Rafi, son of Abdul Salam Miah, residing in the Tangail Sadar area.

According to local eyewitnesses, Rafi was travelling by motorcycle from the direction of Tangail when a speeding passenger bus struck his vehicle from behind near the Ashuka CNG station. The force of the impact threw the teenager onto the road. Before he could recover or move to safety, an oncoming heavy goods truck running directly behind the bus ran over him, crushing him beneath its wheels. Rafi succumbed to severe traumatic injuries at the scene before medical assistance could reach him.

Upon receiving reports of the collision, officers from the Naojor Highway Police Station rushed to the spot to secure the area and manage the mounting traffic congestion caused by the accident. Senior police officials confirmed that the victim’s body was recovered and transported to the police station for necessary legal formalities and an autopsy.

The Dhaka-Tangail highway remains a notorious stretch for road accidents, frequently witnessing fatal crashes due to vehicular overspeeding, hazardous overtaking, and improper lane discipline by heavy transport vehicles and long-distance buses. Highway authorities are conducting preliminary inquiries to trace the bus and truck involved, both of which reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police confirmed that legal proceedings and operations to identify the drivers are currently underway.
