A eighteen-year-old motorcyclist has lost his life following a collision with an unidentified battery-powered auto-van in the Lalpur upazila of Natore district.

The victim, identified as Abdullah, was the son of the late Shahiduzzaman, a resident of Uttar Lalpur village. The incident took place at approximately 10:45 am on Thursday near the Shimultala police checkpoint.

According to local witnesses and police authorities, Abdullah was riding his motorcycle from Lalpur towards Gopalpur. As he reached a point roughly 50 yards north of the Shimultala checkpoint, his vehicle collided head-on with an incoming auto-van travelling in the opposite direction. The force of the impact threw the teenager onto the tarmac, causing severe blunt-force trauma to the back of his head. He suffered heavy bleeding from his nose and mouth immediately following the crash.

Bystanders rushed to the scene to assist the critically injured youth, transporting him straight to the Lalpur Upazila Health Complex. However, the attending duty physician at the emergency department pronounced him dead upon arrival at around 11:00 am. Medical personnel confirmed that the fatal outcome was due to irreparable traumatic injuries to the skull and head.

The Officer-in-Charge of Lalpur Police Station, Shafiqul Islam, confirmed that officers inspected the site shortly after the collision occurred. Because the victim’s family raised no suspicion of foul play and submitted a formal request to forego an autopsy, the body was released to the relatives for burial procedures.

Police have initiated an enquiry to trace the unidentified auto-van and its driver, who fled the scene following the impact. Law enforcement officers noted that surveillance and patrol measures along the corridor are being intensified to curb reckless driving and improve overall road safety.

Tragedies of this nature underscore ongoing safety concerns surrounding lightweight motorized vehicles and two-wheelers sharing narrow regional corridors in Rural Bangladesh. Local residents have frequently voiced alarm over speed discrepancies and a lack of proper regulation on rural routes, where unlicenced auto-vans often operate alongside conventional traffic.
