According to official police reports, the victim is a minor school student enrolled in the seventh grade at a local institution operated under the direct administration of the cantonment authorities in the city. The harrowing incident began to unfold when the primary suspect, a twenty-one-year-old student named Salman, established a romantic rapport with the young girl. On 2nd September, under false pretences, Salman took the victim to the home of his acquaintance, Swapno, a twenty-year-old student residing in the Kamarpara area. Once inside the premises, Salman attempted to assault the minor. When initial efforts failed, the perpetrators escalated their abusive actions by forcibly stripping the victim, capturing compromising nude photographs and video footage of her on digital devices, and subjecting her to further threats.

Following the physical ordeal, the offenders orchestrated a calculated campaign of digital extortion. Utilising the illicitly obtained visual material, Salman managed to access the Instagram account of the victim’s mother. He subsequently transmitted the explicit video footage directly to the mother’s inbox, accompanying the file with explicit financial demands under the threat of releasing the media publicly if a ransom was not paid. Traumatised by the ordeal and facing intense psychological pressure, the family decided to pursue formal legal recourse. On Tuesday afternoon, the victim’s father formally lodged a comprehensive complaint at the Rangpur Kotwali Metropolitan Police Station, detailing the sequence of offences and identifying the perpetrators.

Acting swiftly upon the formal complaint, investigative units launched targeted operations across the metropolis. By Tuesday noon, police teams successfully tracked down and arrested Salman in the Senpara locality, while simultaneously apprehending Swapno from his residence in Kamarpara. Following their initial detention and interrogation at the local police station, the investigation officer transferred the two accused individuals to the Rangpur Metropolitan Cognisance Court under strict security protocols.

During the court proceedings, defence counsel representing the accused students formally appealed for bail. However, after reviewing the gravity of the charges and the initial investigative findings, the presiding magistrate rejected the bail petitions and ordered both suspects to be remanded in judicial custody. Confirming the developments to the media, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Nazmul Kader stated that the authorities have treated the matter with utmost seriousness. As part of the ongoing judicial process, the minor victim was produced before the court to record her confidential statement under section 22 of the legal code, ensuring that her testimony is securely documented as the prosecution builds its case against the accused.
