Eyewitnesses reported that a group of over fifty individuals linked to the banned Awami League marched towards the site in a flash procession. Advancing from the direction of Kashipur School and College, the group chanted political slogans, including “Joy Bangla”, before detonating a crude bomb on the main tarmac right outside the police headquarters. The perpetrators fled the scene immediately after the explosion.

Local shopkeepers situated along the highway described moments of intense chaos as the blast reverberated through the commercial strip. Md Tamim, a shopkeeper at Brothers Store, recalled seeing the crowd march down the road chanting slogans before the device was set off. A local tea vendor working nearby stated that the sudden, loud bang left onlookers terrified and scrambling for safety, with smoke filling the immediate surroundings before the group dispersed into nearby alleys.

Law enforcement personnel from Barishal Metropolitan Police rushed to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the explosion. Police cordoned off the area to collect forensic evidence and secure the busy highway segment.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, Md Anisur Rahman, confirmed that officers dispatched to the location found visible blast marks on the road surface. Whilst residue consistent with an explosive device was discovered on the highway, officers found no unexploded devices or additional materials in the immediate vicinity during their initial sweep.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage recovered from surveillance cameras installed at the DIG office and surrounding commercial establishments to identify those involved in the procession and blast. Police patrols have been intensified along the Dhaka-Barishal highway to maintain order and reassure the public.
