MANIKGANJ — A 41-year-old woman attempting to deliver a substantial consignment of narcotic pills was detained by local residents in Shibalaya Upazila, Manikganj, before being handed over to the police alongside two thousand contraband Yaba tablets.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM on Friday near a playground in Jamduara village, situated within Ward No. 6 of Teota Union under Shibalaya Upazila.
The suspect has been identified as Jahanara Khatun, wife of Soleman, hailing from Kashinathpur village in the Santhia Upazila of Pabna district. She currently resides in the Nazirganj area of Sujanagar Upazila within the same district.
According to reports from community members, Khatun had allegedly been operating as a regional courier, transporting Yaba tablets into the locality over an extended period. Suspicions peaked on Friday morning when villagers spotted her loitering in front of the residence of a local man named Inna Miah. Recognizing her from previous visits, residents intercepted her on the spot and brought her to a nearby housing project area, where they immediately notified law enforcement authorities.
Upon receiving the alert, a team from Shibalaya Police Station arrived at the location to take custody of the suspect. A search of her bag conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of two thousand pieces of Yaba, a potent synthetic drug combining methamphetamine and caffeine.
During preliminary questioning by officers, Khatun disclosed that she had travelled to the area on multiple occasions over the past month to deliver shipments of Yaba pills directly to Inna Miah, who acts as a local distributor.
The vigilance of the local population reflects growing community concern over the infiltration of illegal narcotics into rural neighborhoods across Manikganj. Local elders expressed alarm over the steady influx of synthetic drugs, which continue to pose a severe threat to young people in the region.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibalaya Police Station, Md. Aminul Islam, confirmed the arrest and seizure of the illicit substance. He stated that the confiscated narcotics have been officially catalogued as evidence, and formal legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are currently underway against the suspect.
Law enforcement officers have launched targeted operations to locate and arrest Inna Miah and any other associates involved in the supply chain operating within the district.
