Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized team from the SRB-10 Faridpur camp conducted a targeted search of the deserted semi-pucca structure, uncovering a cache of law enforcement munitions left behind by unidentified individuals.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tapan Sarkar, representing the SRB Faridpur camp, confirmed the details of the seizure, stating that officers recovered 27 rounds of live shotgun cartridges, 13 teargas shells, and seven sound grenades during the sweep. Verification of serial markings and official logs confirmed that all recovered items belonged to the arms inventory of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station.

The munitions were originally looted on 5 August 2024 during widespread unrest surrounding the July Mass Uprising. Amid national political instability, several police stations across the country, including Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur, were vandalised, ransacked, and set on fire by crowds, allowing criminal elements and rioters to misappropriate official firearms, riot control equipment, and live ammunition.

Law enforcement agencies have maintained heightened vigilance across the region over concerns that weapons and ordnance stolen during the uprising could be deployed by organized criminal networks or extremist groups for illegal acts, extortion, or political violence. ASP Tapan Sarkar noted that the abandoned building in Kanaipur had likely been used as a temporary drop point or storage site by perpetrators seeking to evade ongoing recovery operations.

The seized ammunition and crowd-control weapons have been taken into SRB custody for forensic verification and safe storage. Police authorities confirmed that investigative efforts, intelligence gathering, and drive operations remain active across Faridpur to locate remaining unrecovered arms and bring those responsible for police station looting to justice.
