Jane Alam Apu, Joint Convenor of the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council (BAGCHAS), has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in connection with a Tk 50 lakh extortion attempt at the residence of a former Member of Parliament in Gulshan.
The arrest was made on Friday, 1 August, from the Wari area of Dhaka, confirmed Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the DMP.
“Jane Alam Apu was arrested from Wari in relation to the Tk 50 lakh extortion incident in Gulshan,” said DC Talebur Rahman.
Background of the Case
Earlier, Gulshan Police had arrested the following individuals over the same extortion case:

The four adult suspects are currently on police remand for further interrogation.
Authorities suggest the case involves a coordinated group effort to extort a significant sum from a politically prominent figure, raising concerns about the misuse of student political platforms for criminal activities. Investigations are ongoing.
