Mourning in Kyiv
Thursday’s air assault stands among the deadliest attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the outset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. In response, Kyiv declared a day of mourning, with flags at half-mast and commemorations held for the victims.
Political Reactions
In the wake of the devastating attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a bold appeal to Western allies:
“It is time for the world to consider regime change in Russia,” Zelensky urged, emphasising the necessity of stronger international responses.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump delivered a sharp condemnation of Russia’s ongoing aggression:
“Russia — I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing. I think it’s disgusting,” he stated during a press briefing on Thursday.
Trump also hinted at forthcoming sanctions against Moscow. Earlier in the week, he had issued a 10- to 12-day ultimatum demanding that Russia cease its invasion, now stretching into its fourth year, or face punitive economic actions.
Summary of Key Developments
The tragedy has intensified calls for decisive global action as Ukraine continues to endure relentless bombardment, with civilians bearing the brunt of a war that shows no signs of abating.
