A six-year-old boy was killed after being trapped beneath a brick-breaking machine in Madaripur Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Arian, son of Arman Khan of the Nayachar area. The accident occurred at around 8.30am in Nayachar, according to police.
Local residents said several workers were transporting a brick-breaking machine from Charmuguria towards the Gucchogram area when the accident occurred. As the machine was being taken across the road, Arian fell beneath it and was crushed, leaving him critically injured.
People in the area rushed to rescue the child and took him to Madaripur District Hospital. However, his condition was already critical. Doctors at the hospital examined him and declared him dead shortly after his arrival.
News of the incident quickly spread through the area, leaving Arian’s family and neighbours shocked. His death at such a young age has also raised concerns among local residents about the safety measures used when heavy machinery is transported through areas where pedestrians and children are present.
The circumstances surrounding the accident have not yet been fully established. It was not immediately clear how the child came into contact with the machine or what precautions were being taken while it was being moved along the road.
Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said Arian’s body had been sent to the mortuary of Madaripur District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The OC said police would take legal action if the family submitted a written complaint over the incident.
Details about the operator of the machine or the workers involved were not immediately available. Police are expected to establish the precise circumstances of the accident through their investigation and any information provided by witnesses or the family.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks associated with moving heavy machinery through populated areas. Such equipment can pose a serious danger to pedestrians, particularly young children, when adequate precautions are not maintained.
For Arian’s family, however, the incident has brought an irreparable loss. What began as an ordinary morning in Nayachar ended with the death of a six-year-old child, leaving his relatives and the local community mourning.
