Narcotics control officers in Rajbari have arrested a 31-year-old man following a targeted raid that led to the recovery of a fully functional Pakistani revolver and live ammunition. The operation, conducted on Sunday morning in Pangsha upazila, also resulted in the seizure of a mobile phone belonging to the suspect.
Law enforcement personnel identified the detainee as Arafat Hossain, locally known as Manik. He was taken into custody from his residence in Harinadanga village under Pangsha upazila. Arafat is the son of the late Nawab Ali, a former resident of the same village.
According to official statements from the Rajbari District Office of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), the raid was executed based on precise intelligence. A specialized team led by DNC Inspector Md Russel Ali surrounded Arafat’s home in Harinadanga early on Sunday, 11 October. Officers secured the perimeter before entering the residence, detaining Arafat inside without resistance.
A thorough search of the premises uncovered a black synthetic shopping bag hidden within the house. Upon inspecting the contents, officers discovered an operational foreign firearm featuring a distinctive wooden grip. Physical examination revealed the weapon to be an 8.5-inch revolver with the inscription “MADE IN PAKISTAN” clearly engraved along its barrel.
In addition to the firearm, officers recovered eight rounds of live ammunition from the same bag. Five of the cartridges were fashioned from an aluminium-type alloy, each marked with the letter “E” on its percussion cap. The remaining three rounds were crafted from brass, with two featuring the letters “VL” and one stamped with the letter “R” on their respective caps.
During the search, the raiding team also confiscated a dual-SIM Winstar button mobile phone. Following the seizure, Inspector Md Russel Ali filed a formal case against Arafat Hossain under the Arms Act at Pangsha Police Station.
Confirming the arrest on Sunday evening, Inspector Russel Ali stated that the suspect, along with the recovered weapon, ammunition, and mobile phone, had been handed over to Pangsha police for further legal proceedings. Investigators are currently working to ascertain how the illicit firearm entered the region and whether it was intended for criminal activities.
