Businessman Assaulted Inside Shop in Barguna by Alleged ‘Coordinator’

A businessman in Barguna town was physically assaulted inside his own shop by an individual who introduced himself as a ‘coordinator’. The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Saturday, 2 August, at a clothing store on Bibi Road in Barguna municipality.

Background of the Dispute

Md Jasim, owner of “Ladies Point”, was reportedly on his way to buy food with his child when a pedestrian woman, Yasmin Tania, allegedly pushed the child, causing them to fall. When Jasim protested, a verbal dispute ensued between them.

The cloth merchants’ association quickly took notice and attempted to resolve the issue by inviting both parties for mediation.

However, during the discussion, the woman’s son, Sinha Rahman—introducing himself as a coordinator—arrived with a group of men. In the middle of the conversation, Sinha physically attacked Jasim inside his own shop, creating widespread panic and prompting nearby shop owners to shut their businesses.

“During the conversation, Sinha and another youth entered the shop and began assaulting Jasim. We intervened immediately, or it could have turned into looting. Following the incident, all shops were closed, and we’ve decided that if justice is not ensured, we will shut down indefinitely starting tomorrow.”

Police Statement

Md Yakub Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Barguna Sadar Police Station, stated:
