Seven Injured in Truck Cylinder Explosion at Savar Refuelling Station

At least seven people sustained injuries when a gas cylinder fitted to a lorry violently exploded during refuelling at a compressed natural gas (CNG) station in Savar. The blast occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on Tuesday at Online Filling Station (CNG) Limited, located in the Salehpur area of Aminbazar along the Dhaka-Aricha highway, leaving the vehicle severely damaged.
Eyewitnesses and station employees reported that the cylinder installed beneath the lorry ruptured suddenly with a deafening blast whilst being filled with natural gas. The force of the explosion shattered the undercarriage of the vehicle, burst its tyres, and blew the attendant staff several metres across the forecourt. Station workers confirmed that no occupants were inside the cabin of the lorry when the detonation happened.
Three station employees—identified as Billal, 26, Abdur Rahman, 30, and Monnu, 50—suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for treatment. Four other individuals waiting in queue to refuel their vehicles received minor injuries and were discharged after receiving first aid on site.
Attending doctor Rakib Al Mahmud Shuvo at Enam Medical College Hospital confirmed that three patients were admitted in critical condition to the emergency department. Medical staff administered urgent procedures, and doctors have since confirmed that while the injuries are serious, all three men are currently out of danger and undergoing continuous monitoring.
Following the incident, officers from the Aminbazar police outpost arrived at the scene to secure the area, assist with emergency rescue efforts, and manage traffic flow along the busy highway. Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, Saiful Alam, confirmed that law enforcement officers have impounded the damaged lorry to facilitate a forensic investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Station officials suspect that the vehicle was operating with an expired, sub-standard, or uncertified CNG cylinder unable to withstand standard refuelling pressures. Technical inspections and legal inquiries are ongoing to determine whether safety regulations and mandatory cylinder testing protocols were violated.
