To mark the anniversary of the July mass uprising, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) held a significant rally at Shahbagh in Dhaka. The programme began at 2:30pm on Sunday, 3 August, with an opening speech by JCD Central President Rakibul Islam, who declared boldly:

“No one in Bangladesh has the power to stop Chhatra Dal.”

In his inaugural remarks, Rakibul further stated:

“Those who conspire to destabilise the country—if Chhatra Dal wishes, it can uproot their venomous fangs. If our organisational guardian Tarique Rahman instructs us, our activists can enforce a blockade across the nation.”

Atmosphere at the Venue

Since morning, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists from various units—central committee, Dhaka city branches, and districts across the country—began arriving at the rally site. A stage was erected facing the TSC direction at Shahbagh junction.

Attendees were adorned with national and party flags tied around their foreheads and heads. Many wore armbands emblazoned with the Chhatra Dal name and logo. A sea of Chhatra Dal and BNP flags could be seen waving throughout the gathering.

Popular Slogans Chanted

Activists energetically chanted various slogans supporting their leadership and the return of Tarique Rahman, including:

  • “Maa-Maati Dakchhe, Tarique Rahman Aschhe” (Mother and soil are calling, Tarique Rahman is coming)
  • “Tarique Rahman Birer Beshe, Asbe Phire Bangladeshe” (Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh like a hero)
  • “Tarique Rahman-er Bhoy Nai, Rajpath Chhari Nai” (We have no fear, and we haven’t left the streets)

The event, orchestrated under the leadership of Rakibul Islam, was a show of strength for Chhatra Dal, sending a clear message of continued political presence and resilience on the national stage.
