Police have recovered the partially decomposed body of a 50-year-old grocery shop assistant from a rented flat in Ashulia, Savar. The discovery of the corpse inside a room with its door left wide open has raised numerous questions among local residents regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased was identified as Ansar Ali, son of the late Sujat Ali, hailing from Baiskhail village under Gopalpur Police Station in Tangail district. Ansar lived alone in the rented residence of Jinnat Ali in the Unique Bartola area of Ashulia and worked as an employee at a local grocery store owned by a shopkeeper named Motaleb.
According to neighbours, Ansar had not been seen for two days. Suspicion arose on Sunday morning, 18 October 2026, around 11:00 am, when a strong foul odour began emanating from his quarters. Upon investigating, residents noticed that the entrance door to his room was wide open. Looking inside, they spotted Ansar’s lifeless, decomposing body lying on the floor and immediately alerted the local police authorities.
A police contingent from Ashulia Police Station arrived shortly afterwards to secure the scene and perform the preliminary inquest. Local residents expressed confusion over how the door remained open for two days without anyone noticing the body earlier, with several neighbours demanding a thorough investigation to determine whether any foul play was involved.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Rasheduzzaman, in-charge of the Jamgora Police Outpost in Ashulia, confirmed that the body was recovered and sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. He noted that initial physical examinations revealed no visible marks of injury on the victim’s body.
Police officers also contacted the deceased’s family members, who disclosed that Ansar had been suffering from chronic health issues, including severe hypertension. Investigating officers stated that they are keeping all avenues of inquiry open while awaiting the official post-mortem report.
