Renowned Bangladeshi pop singer Asif Akbar, affectionately dubbed the ‘Yubaraj’ (Prince) of Bengali music, has recorded a brand-new single penned and composed by lyricist and composer Mahbubul Khalid.
Titled ‘Sokhi Tui Ki Tel Makhis Chule’ (Dear, Do You Put Oil in Your Hair?), the song is a romantic composition that weaves deep feelings of adoration, rural beauty, and infatuation through evocative folk terminology. The lyrics express the heartfelt emotions of a lover thoroughly enchanted by the grace and beauty of his beloved.
A few poignant lines from the song translate to: “Dear, do you put oil in your hair? What sari do you wear, as your veil sways in the wind? Your anklets chime softly, while your beauty sets fire around.”
The official music video for the track will be released shortly on the ‘Khalid Sangeet’ YouTube channel and Facebook page. Meanwhile, the audio version has already been made available to listeners on the official website of the same name.
Mahbubul Khalid remains an active creative voice in the music and literary landscape of Bangladesh. His works are regularly published across social media platforms under the ‘Khalid Sangeet’ banner, as well as on his dedicated portal. To date, he has written over 500 songs, performed by prominent artists spanning multiple generations of Bangladeshi musicians.
While romantic melodies form a part of his catalogue, Khalid’s writing frequently grapples with social injustice, humanitarian crises, and pressing current affairs. He penned ‘Aduri’, a track addressing the harrowing plight of a young domestic worker abused in Mirpur, Dhaka. His song ‘Felani re Korlo Guli’ highlighted the tragic shooting of Felani Khatun along the border, capturing a stark and painful reality.
Similarly, his song ‘Magurar Phul’ was inspired by the violence inflicted upon young Achia in Magura, forcing listeners to confront questions of conscience and humanity. More recently, he wrote ‘Ramisar Bichar’, demanding justice for another tragic incident.
Khalid’s songwriting also extends to international humanitarian concerns, including tracks dedicated to the Palestine crisis and the Rohingya refugee ordeal. Through these creations, he consistently seeks to promote messages of empathy, protest, and social awareness. With ‘Sokhi Tui Ki Tel Makhis Chule’, Asif Akbar brings a refined vocal dimension to this diverse and expanding repertoire.
