Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) officers have recovered 103 live handmade crude bombs, locally known as cocktails, left abandoned in an orchard within the Kashiadanga area of Rajshahi city.

The recovery occurred during a late-night sweep at around 2:00 am on Tuesday in a litchi orchard situated in the Aduburi Uparmath locality. Acting on precise intelligence regarding an abandoned cache of explosives, an operational team from RAB-5 raided the secluded plantation. Upon searching the site, security personnel discovered the handmade devices concealed inside an abandoned cement sack left amongst the trees.

Confirming the seizure in an official press release issued on Wednesday morning, RAB-5 stated that all 103 crude explosives were promptly rendered secure and taken into custody. The explosive devices were manufactured using local materials and were packed into the sack, likely intended for unlawful activities or civil disruption in the city.

Following the seizure, law enforcement authorities transferred the recovered explosives to Kashiadanga Police Station for proper storage and bomb disposal procedures. RAB personnel have lodged a General Diary (GD) with the local police station to initiate official legal proceedings. A police investigation is currently under way to ascertain the origin of the explosives and identify the individuals or groups responsible for stockpiling them in the orchard.

Crude bombs of this nature are frequently assembled using gunpowder, splinting materials, and adhesive tape, posing a severe hazard to public safety and local residents. Operations by elite law enforcement bodies like RAB remain vital in intercepting such illegal stockpiles before they can be deployed. Security patrols across the Kashiadanga and adjoining police jurisdictions have been intensified as a precautionary measure to prevent further security threats.
