At least 14 people, including a woman, sustained injuries on Monday morning following violent clashes between two rival factions of battery-powered autorickshaw drivers over control of a designated stand in Narayanganj’s Bandar Upazila.
The incident unfolded at the autorickshaw stand adjacent to the busy Bandar Kheya Ghat ferry terminal. According to eyewitnesses and local operators, drivers on the Bandar-Nabiganj route were picking up passengers according to their daily routine when a faction led by a local resident named Ajit confronted them. Ajit’s group attempted to ban the drivers from operating at the stand, leading to a heated argument that rapidly escalated into a physical confrontation. Drivers engaged in chases and counter-chases, wielding makeshift weapons and sticks, causing widespread panic among morning commuters.
One of the injured drivers, Md Junaid, stated that his colleagues were following the established queuing order when the rival group launched an unprovoked attack. He explained that after the drivers refused to comply with the arbitrary ban, Ajit’s faction assaulted them violently.
The casualties identified following the incident include:

The injured individuals received immediate medical attention at local health facilities following the assault.
In the immediate aftermath of the clash, transport operations along both the Bandar-Nabiganj and Bandar-Chowdhurybari routes came to a complete halt. The suspension of battery-powered autorickshaws—a key mode of daily transport in the suburban district—left hundreds of office-goers, students, and residents stranded, forcing many to walk long distances to reach their destinations.
The victims have formally lodged a written complaint with Bandar Police Station, demanding legal action against those responsible for the violence.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, Jamal Uddin, confirmed that police personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the altercation. Officers restored order, and extra police forces remain deployed at the stand to prevent further unrest. OC Jamal Uddin added that law enforcement officials are investigating the written complaint thoroughly and are currently initiating dialogue between both factions to resolve the dispute peacefully.
