Prominent Islamic speaker Hafez Qari Zubayer Ahmad Tashreef, known for his frequent social media sermons on morality and righteousness, has been publicly accused by his own father of neglect and financial abandonment.
Maulana Md Hedayetullah, Tashreef’s father, revealed his grievances in a tearful video interview published by the daily newspaper Kaler Kantho on Monday evening, 26 October. Breakdown in tears, Hedayetullah alleged that despite his son’s considerable wealth and social influence, Tashreef refuses to provide financial support for his medical treatment or maintain regular contact.
“I am ill, yet when I ask my son for money, he gives nothing,” Hedayetullah stated. “He spends money in so many places, but ignores me.”
The father recounted the immense sacrifices he made during Tashreef’s childhood. As a mosque imam with a modest income, Hedayetullah struggled to fund his son’s education to help him become a Hafez and Maulana. He recalled soliciting financial help and begging from others when Tashreef suffered from a severe urinary blockage as a child, using those funds to secure medical treatment across hospitals in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Mirzapur until his recovery. Tashreef now denies his father’s role in his education and upbringing.
When Hedayetullah requested financial aid for his own medical treatment recently, Tashreef refused, citing plans to purchase land instead. The elderly father eventually sought help through media contacts to fund his ongoing treatment, though his health remains fragile.
Hedayetullah also disclosed that he resigned from his post as a mosque imam at Tashreef’s request. Tashreef promised to provide a monthly allowance of 10,000 BDT after asking for his father’s forgiveness and blessing ahead of a local political campaign. However, since resigning, Hedayetullah has received no financial assistance. Repeated telephone calls to Tashreef and his personal assistant, Obaidullah, have gone unanswered.
The father shared another painful incident from Eid-ul-Adha, where Tashreef sacrificed a bull but distributed meat exclusively to his friends, refusing to give even a single piece to his father.
Tashreef has yet to issue an official response or statement regarding his father’s public allegations.
The public outcry follows recent controversies involving the preacher. Tashreef drew widespread condemnation on social media after defending a teacher accused of sexually abusing a seven-year-old student at the Qariul Quran International Cadet Madrasa in Tongi, posting on his Facebook page that kissing a minor child was permissible.
